AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY PROSTATE CANCER EXPERTS
Dr. Richstone was thrilled to accept the invitation to participate as an expert prostate cancer surgeon at the American Cancer Society (ACS) PROSTATE CANCER: LET’S TALK ABOUT IT event in Harlem, NYC. This important event helped raise awareness about prostate cancer during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. Prostate cancer is more prevalent amongst black men, and their prostate cancer tends to be more aggressive. Men should have a discussion with their physician regarding prostate cancer screening with PSA blood testing beginning at age 40 to 45 years for people at increased risk of developing prostate cancer based on the following factors: Black ancestry, germline mutations, strong family history of prostate cancer. Without such risk factors, patients should discuss prostate cancer screening with their physicians between the ages of 50 and 69 years old.
