STUDY TITLE: A Pivotal Study of Voro Urologic Scaffold for the Treatment of Post Prostatectomy Stress Urinary Incontinence

Prostate cancer surgery (prostatectomy) can cause urinary incontinence (urine leakage). Most people experience urinary incontinence for several weeks to months after surgery and recover. For some patients, the recovery period is longer. Researcher Dr. Lee Richstone is the principal investigator at Northwell Health of a study that assesses the Voro Urologic Scaffold in people having a prostatectomy. He is the first surgeon in New York State to perform robotic radical prostatectomy using the device.

The purpose of the study is to see if the Voro device is safe and works well to improve urinary control immediately after prostatectomy and for up to 2 years. The Voro Urologic Scaffold is placed at the time of prostate removal surgery, as seen in the video above. It is made from the same type of material as the dissolvable stitches used in surgery, meaning that the device is not permanent - it will dissolve. The funnel shape of the device stretches the urethra and bladder neck into a shape that results in less stress on the sphincter muscle, leading to quicker urinary control after surgery.
