At The Smith Institute for Urology at Lenox Hill We Offer Every Option for BPH
Many other urology departments treat every patient “like a nail” - they perform only one or a few of the available BPH treatment options, so every patient gets their “hammer”
At The Smith Institute for Urology at Lenox Hill, we truly have world class experts at each and every treatment modality for BPH - Single Port Robotic Enucleation of the Prostate (STEP), Transurethral Resection of the Prostate (TURP), Holmium Laser Enucleation (HoLEP), Greenlight laser ablation, Rezum, Aquablation, UroLift, Prostatic Artery Embolization (PAE).
See the bottom of this page for informative summary of BPH treatment options by our incredible BPH-laser surgeon, Dr. Tammer Yamany
When men urinate, the bladder squeezes like a pump and forces urine out through their water channel (urethra). The urethra goes right through the middle of the prostate. Imagine the hard boiled egg above is your prostate. The prostate gets larger as you get older, from benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). As it gets larger, the urethra is squeezed by the center portion of the prostate (the egg yolk). This results in symptoms like trouble starting your stream, weak stream, frequency and urgency, and urinating at night.
Many procedures for BPH involve opening up the center of the prostate, like removing the yolk of this hard boiled egg. Using different technologies, this is what is accomplished by procedures such as TURP, laser or robotic enucleation (HoLEP and STEP), Rezum, and Aquablation. Urine can then pass through the center of the prostate easily, relieving strain on your bladder and reducing bothersome urinary symptoms, blockage of flow, and retention of urine
